 Edgeio Launches

  • February 28th, 2006
  • 2:06 am

Edgeio, created by Keith Teare and Micheal Arrington of Techcrunch launched today.

Edgeio is a decentralized and distributed Craigslist. Post your classified information on your blog or website. Tag it with a ‘listing’ tag and it’s aggregated into the Edgeio world. From there you can head to the Edgeio site to add additonal metadata.

Once your data is in Edgeio you can place it on your website or blog so people know what you have for sale.

Seems to me to have a few challenges to overcome including:

  • getting people to adopt the listing tag
  • getting a big enough audience of both buyers and sellers
  • a sustainable revenue model
The most promising solution to point #2 is the potential mashups of classifieds on the web. With over 1,000 listings already in the system, they look off to a good start.

Back to the Valley for Under the Radar

  • February 28th, 2006
  • 1:27 am

With thanks to Sean Wise, I’m off to the Under the Radar Conference in Mountain View this week. It will be exciting to see 32 different web 2.0 companies presenting their products.

The following companies are confirmed presenters:
AirSet | Box.net | Browster | BubbleShare | CalendarHub | Dabble DB | Dogster | Eurekster | Flock | Goowy | Kaboodle | Loomia | Meetro | Mosuki | NowPublic | Popist | Rallypoint | Riya | Rollyo | SimplyHired | Simpy | Skobee | Sphere | Spy Media | TagCloud | Tagged | TailRank | The Form Assembly | Top 10 Sources | Wink | Zoho| Zvents
I’ll be blogging my favorites from the event (and may even end up doing a podcast or two.) If you’d like to personally pitch me look for the “guy with the tags”… cause it’s all about the tags.

I’m in town from Wednesday March 1st through Sunday March 5th.If you’d like to get together while I’m in town, email me at rcheramy@web2.0central.com.

I’ve got a few meetings setup to discuss Zigtag and as well as a few networking events:

- Donald Norman is presenting Cautious Cars, Cranky Kitchens, Demanding Devices at Berkeley.
- Adaptive Path is hosting their 5th Anniversary Party on March 2nd.
- Meetro is hosting a BBQ on March 4th.
Any other events on the go that I’m missing?

On a side note, if someone knows how I can score a cheap ticket to the O’Reilly Emerging Technology Conference I could be convinced to change my flight home and head down to San Diego to cover that event as well.

 iRows - Online Spreadsheet

  • February 22nd, 2006
  • 5:00 am

iRows is a new company that provides an online spreadsheet.

This looks pretty slick and is very usable. You can even easily add graphs to your spreadsheet.

It allows you to keep a spreadsheet private, share it with a group of users or make it public. This looks like a great tool for collaborating on shared spreadsheet data.

Looks like Num Sum has some competition.

 Numbler - Online Spreadsheet

  • February 22nd, 2006
  • 4:07 am

Numbler is another new startup tackling the online spreadsheet world.

The this interaction for moving between rows needs a little work but this too looks like a good candidate for providing people with a way to collaborate on excel spreadsheets.

Numbler ads a nice little chat window so that when you’re working on the spreadsheet you can chat with your fellow workmates. Great idea.

Coolest thing at the Microsoft Vista Demo!

  • February 12th, 2006
  • 1:22 pm

While at Northern Voice, I managed to take in the Windows Vista demo lead by Robert Scoble and Chris Pirillo.

The demo was interesting and it shows that Microsoft is looking to add some more ‘pretty’ stuff to Windows, is concerned about security and is working on enhancing performance.

Check out this photo I grabbed from Now Public. In it you’ll see Robert and Chris Demoing away, the others in the frame are me, Matt Mullenweg creator of Wordpress, and Kevin Marks of Technorati (who at that moment was fixing the indexing of Web 2.0 Central in Technorati… how cool is that?).

The crowd was interested but after the demo was done, Chris said he had OSX running on his Think Pad and crazily asked if anyone wanted to see it.

What happened next was the geek version of a paparazzi rabid shark feeding frenzy. DOZENS of people were snapping photos. You’d think Chris exposed a nipple or something.

The coolest thing about the Microsoft Vista session at Northern Voice 2006 ? OSX running on an IBM Thinkpad.

(Sorry Robert.)
